I recently got this as my first tattoo. And it hurt quite a bit! Most likely because I’m a tad underweight and could use some more muscle on my forearm. Anyway, this is a plus sign to represent a new chapter in my life. A chapter of positivity, where I’ll always look at the positives in life.In May of 2010 (my senior year of high school) I was diagnosed with hepatocellular carcinoma, which is a transitional liver cancer. I’ve undergone an 11 hour liver resection to remove a tumor the size of a grapefruit, if not bigger. On top of that I’ve gone through 3 different chemotherapy regimens and am about to start another one later in January. I’ve seen all the highs and lows of life in a span of only two years. But I don’t feel sick. I know what I’m living with, and I know what I’m fighting. But in essence, it’s a blessing. I know more and appreciate more of life than any other person my age. So this is just an artistic reminder to appreciate the little things in life. I’m not going to die. Not now. Not in 20 years. I understand there is no cure for this, but there are forms of treatment. And I can live with that. As long as I have the love of my life, Reina, I know we can do anything. She’s seen me go through my lowest. She loved me even when I was completely bald. She makes every day of my life worthwhile.
Stay positive.

staff:

This weekend, we hosted a meeting at Tumblr HQ with top technology companies, politicians and advocacy groups to coordinate our effort to reform or prevent the well-intentioned but deeply flawed Stop Online Piracy Act from becoming law. You guys have already made a huge impact in Washington, but…

Ugh

In a funk he says. Come save me I say.

My tattoo was done by Jerm at the Laughing Buddha in Seattle, Washington. It’s John Tenniel’s original White Rabbit, an illustration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. The rabbit represents fresh creativity being hailed in by trumpet blast.
I absolutely recommend Jerm. He does beautiful work. My tatoo healed perfectly, and on top of that, Jerm gave me invaluable artist-to-artist advice during our nearly two-hour session.
